Shannon-Hartley theorem

To obtain the maximum teorethical bitrate from a transmission, we can use the Shannon-Hartley theorem, which set the maximum capacity $C$ of a channel to:

$C = B \log_2 \left( 1 + \frac{S}{N} \right)$

where $B$ is the channel bandwith and $\frac{S}{N}$ is the signal to nois ratio
